The first documented use by SSO forces of the 155mm M712 Copperhead projectile, guided by a laser pointer via Leonardo’s Type 163 LTD station.
This became known from the release of the “Compendium summarizing the combat experience of SSO units during Kursk
operations (August 3-September 6, 2024)” – a document of 200+ pages, which is currently being actively studied by the Russians and published on their channels.
M712 Copperhead was used east of Suja between Pravda and Martynivka.
They fired from a 155-mm M777 gun.
The document states that the target was a metal support with communication antennas installed on it.
✅ 1st projectile – direct hit on the target (most of the antennas were damaged or destroyed)
✅ 2nd projectile – a direct hit, the tower partially tilted
✅ 3rd projectile – did not hit the target. The reason is a malfunction of the M712 projectile guidance lens
