The House of Commons in Canada’s Parliament has authorized $587 million in military assistance for Ukraine as part of a comprehensive budget package, enabling the government to allocate an additional 21 billion Canadian dollars towards various priorities, including national defense.
Defense Minister Bill Blair indicated that the funds would be directed towards providing Ukraine with crucial resources, including munitions and training, to achieve victory.
The budget includes a financial assistance package of 400 million Canadian dollars (approximately $307 million) to Ukraine through an IMF special account, and an additional 45 million Canadian dollars (about $35 million) for humanitarian demining and strengthening Ukraine’s cyber resilience.
As part of efforts to force the government’s resignation, the opposition Conservative Party voted against the extra spending, which now awaits Senate approval to become effective.
