Government agencies and private companies in Russia’s Urals, Siberia, and Far East have significantly increased spending on anti-drone equipment, with 841 million rubles spent since 2024, 22 times more than in 2023.
Since the beginning of 2024, the Siberian Federal District has invested 90 million rubles in drone protection measures, a substantial increase from last year’s 29.5 million. The majority of funds, 73.2 million rubles, were allocated by Krasnoyarsk Krai, with notable projects including the 39.4 million ruble installation of the Kaspersky Antidrone system at CHPP-1 in Norilsk. Regional authorities also spent 33.8 million on anti-drone devices. Novosibirsk Oblast purchased anti-drone equipment for 13 million rubles, benefiting institutions such as Vector Scientific Center and Thermal Power Stations. Altai Krai, Irkutsk, Kemerovo, and Omsk Oblasts allocated up to 2 million rubles for drone protection. The Far Eastern regions have seen significant investment in anti-drone solutions, totaling 340 million rubles, primarily for Yuzhno-Sakhalinsk airport and Primorsky fuel company NNK-Primornefteprodukt.
In 2024, drone protection expenditures surged in several districts. The Volga Federal District recorded a notable 16-fold increase to 254.4 million rubles, and the Northwestern Federal District saw a 27% upswing to 178.4 million. In contrast, districts adjacent to Ukraine’s borders saw reduced spending, with the Central District’s funds decreasing from 1.26 billion rubles in 2023 to 457 million in 2024, and the Southern District’s allocation declining from 298 million to 75 million. The North Caucasus Federal District also experienced a decline from 6.6 million to 5.3 million.
